What is a birth doula?

A birth, or labor, doula is a non-medical support person who works with pregnant people and couples.  A doula provides information and resources throughout pregnancy and is with a laboring person throughout their birth providing constant physical, emotional and informational support.  As a birth doula, I will provide resources for comfort measures, help explain options and procedures during labor and, most importantly, act as a constant encourager to the whole laboring team.  I use massage, essential oils, suggest hydrotherapy and position changes for the various parts of labor that you might need help with.  I also guide you during your pregnancy to help you find the right path for you and the birth of your baby.
